It's been a rough week—er, make that year—for Shad "Bow Wow" Moss.
Back in March, now-infamous hip-hop groupie Kat Stacks put Bow Weezy on blast during a video blog, claiming she'd had sexual relations with the rapper on several different occasions and going into vivid (way too vivid!) detail about how the encounters went down. By early June, he was defending his good name after Stacks claimed she received a beatdown at the hands of a couple of guys affiliated with Bow Wow.
And it didn't stop there: Teen rapper Diggy Simmons took a shot at him on a freestyle. The lead single, "Cuff Yo Chick," from his forthcoming Cash Money debut leaked well ahead of schedule and caused him to push his project back to 2011. Raz B accused him of engaging in questionable acts with members of B2K. And the list goes on and on and on...
Most recently, though, things took a self-destructive turn for the worst when Bow took to his Twitter account to share some of his frustrations with the way people have treated him throughout his career. "I sacrificed my life for this Hip Hop shit," he tweeted over the weekend. "I put my 'REAL' life on hold. If i could do it over.... I wudda went to school. Got me a reg job." He added: "I swear i be wishing i was dead sometimes. Because i feel like that's the only way ill get peace. People don't know me man. Yall don't...start looking at Shad. Not Bow wow. Fuck Bow."
Point taken. Maybe we are a little hard on Bow sometimes. He's noticed, too. "I felt overlooked my entire career," he told us last week. "I never got credit for anything that I've ever done."
Here at VIBE, though, we've always respected the guy's hustle. In fact, we think that, as a rapper, Bow Wow deserves a lot more respect from the hip-hop community than he actually gets. And to prove it, we put together a list of the six reasons we consider Bow Wow to be vastly underrated as an MC. We dare you to disagree. —Chris Yuscavage
